Sir Reresby Sitwell first planted the Vineyard at Renishaw in 1972, just a short walk alongside the Stable Courtyard. At the time, those surrounding him doubted whether or not the vines would grow due to Renishaw’s northern location, but to his delight, the vines grew, and it was then named the most northerly vineyard in the country – until 1986.

In 2011, Kieron Atkinson, winemaker and owner of the English Wine Project became the tenant farmer of Renishaw Hall’s vineyard.

During the open season, we host public tours that shed light on the journey of Renishaw’s historic vineyard, winemaking and all that it entails. Alongside this, visitors can taste a selection of wines, with an opportunity to purchase bottles from Renishaw’s Gift Shop, Café and Visitor Centre.

Tours of the vineyard  take place on selected Saturdays & Sundays at 12pm and 2pm during the open season.

Tour Information

Vineyard tours typically last around an hour and offer visitors  the opportunity to discover more about the vineyard, its history and the wines produced, followed by a selection of wine tastings to enjoy. With free, ample parking available on site, visiting us is easy and convenient.

Visitors are also welcome to enjoy free access to our beautiful courtyard, providing the perfect place to relax and soak up the surroundings before or after your visit.

We welcome group visits and private tours, making us an ideal destination for hen parties, bridal showers, birthdays and other special celebrations. Make your occasion extra special with a vineyard tour and a delicious afternoon tea? Our quintessential afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the elegant Rex Whistler Function Room, making a wonderful way to start or finish your day with us.
